There are times when you don't have a lot of time, but you still need a break. A shift in your thinking.

Or maybe you're not feeling motivated and trying something for just an hour or less is more appealing than signing on for something that's a bigger commitment.

The important thing to remember is that engaging in an activity can create a mind shift.

Here are some suggestions.

Step outside.
Before you set out, think about where you might go. You can choose to wander, aim for a landmark, or map out a loop. And while you're out there, look around and listen. What do you see, what do you hear?

Get bookish
  • Start a new book.
  • Read a few chapters of book you've started
  • Go to the library and get some books

This is especially good if you've started a book and can't wait to get back to it. It's also a good chunk of time to dive into a new book. If you've got other commitments, set a timer to be sure you don't get so absorbed in the story you forget to stop.

Organize something
This may seem like a bit of fluff, but slow and steady progress builds on itself.

Write
Write a thank you note, add to your journal, or write a letter.

Do some blackout poetry.
