Once we figured out we could walk to the end of the road, go into the woods, cross the tracks, and follow the path that meets the road that leads to the ice cream stand, we were licked. It's the only way to go. Because walking to the end of the road, going into the woods, crossing the tracks, and walking the path that meets the road that leads to the ice cream stand turns it into an adventure. Sprinkled with anticipation and blended with fresh air, the ice cream becomes more than a single scoop in a sugar cone. It's no longer just a treat, but just reward for the effort, for the twists and turns of the trail, for the two kids who are no longer kids, chasing summer. Comments are closed.
